Steeped in a tradition of excellence, the Performing Arts Department at Lincoln Trail College provides a comprehensive music transfer program and a theater preparatory program. Graduates have built on this foundation at colleges and universities throughout the country. We count passionate educators, gifted professional actors and musicians as well as savvy industry leaders among our alumni.
In 2015, the LTC Theater celebrated forty years of bringing to the stage the best of timeless favorites like Hello, Dolly! and My Fair Lady, intense dramas like The Crucible and 12 Angry Men, grand large-scale productions like Oliver! and Les Miserables as well as small, intimate shows like Almost, Maine.
Barb Shimer returns to direct the theater this year and be assured, whether behind the scenes, under the lights, or in the seats, there’s a place for you.
Students can earn credit and broaden their theater experience working behind the scenes as part of the production crew. Experienced technicians provide hands-on guidance in every phase of stagecraft. Complementing the stage experience, the Theater Department offers classroom instruction in acting, costuming, makeup techniques and stage management as well as sound and lighting effects. Topical courses feature in-depth examinations of a particular show or play. Recent topics include Peter Pan, and Wicked.
Rebecca Carmack directs the Music Department and it boasts some of the finest instrumentalists and vocalists in the region. Instrumentalists can showcase their talents in the Concert Band, Pep Band or the Jazz Band. For vocalists, we start with the college’s premier vocal ensemble, The Statesmen Singers. The Concert Choir always delivers beautiful performances featuring a varied repertoire and gifted soloists. The Camerata Illiana is a chamber ensemble performing more challenging pieces. The Singing Seniors remain community favorites.
For students interested in majoring in music, Music Theory, Aural Skills Training, Ensembles and Applied Music form a core that will equip them for next level of study. The community college setting provides a high degree of personal attention and mentoring both from instructors and experienced performers. The Music Department offers private instruction in voice and a wide range of instruments, including piano, strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion. Piano instruction is also offered in a classroom setting. To round out their music education, students are encouraged to enroll in world music, music appreciation and history.
No matter if you enjoy your music from behind the stands, on the risers, or in the audience, we encourage you to be a part.
